Garth Crooks names ‘authoritative’ Tottenham midfielder in TOTW (not Eriksen)

BBC football pundit Garth Crooks has named Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama in his team of the week after his impressive performance in the 2-1 win against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
The 25-year-old was the only Tottenham player to be included in Crooks’ best XI, as the side is dominated by newly crowned champions Chelsea – four men from Stamford Bridge were selected in his side.
The rest of the lineup is made up of two Arsenal players, and one apiece from Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City and Swansea City.
In the last ever game to be played at White Hart Lane, Wanyama opened the scoring within the first 10 minutes of the game as he found himself on the end of a fantastic cross from Ben Davies.
Harry Kane scored Tottenham’s second just after the interval and although Wayne Rooney got Manchester United back into the game late on, Spurs held on to give their home fans the perfect sendoff.

Wanyama has enjoyed a very successful debut season in North London following his summer move from Southampton, with three goals in 34 Premier League appearances.
In his BBC Football Team of the Week, Crooks praised the Kenyan midfielder’s display on the weekend.
“The cross by Ben Davies was only matched by the glorious header from the Kenya international.
“Wanyama has spent most of the season overshadowed by some wonderful performances from Christian Eriksen but the Denmark international found himself playing second fiddle to an authoritative Wanyama bossing events in midfield.”
The win on the weekend confirmed that Spurs would finish in second place for the first time ever in the Premier League era.
