Gary Lineker and Micah Richards in agreement over Arsenal star who is ‘consistently excellent’
Arsenal left it late to earn a dramatic comeback victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League, going two points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Viktor Gyokeres was denied a penalty for Arsenal after the Swedish international thought Nick Pope had brought him down in the box.
Jarred Gillett gave the decision on the field before VAR overturned the decision, and just over ten minutes later, Newcastle took the lead over Arsenal through Nick Woltemade.
Arsenal fought back against Newcastle with two late goals again, firstly from substitute Mikel Merino and then from Gabriel, who headed home powerfully in the 96th minute.

Gary Lineker and Micah Richards sing Jurrien Timber’s praises
Eberechi Eze starred for Arsenal, while Riccardo Calafiori struggled against Newcastle, but it was Jurrien Timber who caught the eye of Gary Lineker and Micah Richards.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, the pair were in agreement over the Dutch international who has started the season well.
Richards said: “I thought Timber was outstanding,” before Lineker added: “I think he’s consistently excellent.”
Former Manchester City defender Richards then went on to say: “Always excellent. Whether that be defending, whether that be going forward, whether that be his weight to pass, whether that be his energy, I thought he was excellent.”
Jurrien Timber continues resurgent return from injury
Timber’s Arsenal career got off to the worst possible start after tearing his ACL and being sidelined for almost a year.
The former Ajax player returned in April 2024 but was hampered by small knocks throughout the 2024-25 season, which impacted his form.

Since returning to full fitness, Timber has been a revelation for Arsenal, making crucial interventions at both ends of the pitch early this season.
Mikel Arteta will hope that Timber can stay fit and firing for Arsenal as part of their settled backline, with the Gunners on the prowl for silverware.
