Gary Lineker posts Twitter verdict after pulsating Everton victory v Leicester

By Will Butcher

Gary Lineker has applauded Everton’s performance against Leicester as the Toffees secured a 4-2 victory at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

In what was an enthralling encounter, the Toffees went into the break 3-2 up in a crazy first half packed with end-to-end football as Lineker watched two of his old sides do battle.

Match of the Day presenter Lineker praised Ronald Koeman’s side on his personal Twitter account, describing their performance as “excellent”.

Everton took the lead within 30 seconds, as academy star Tom Davies received the ball from Kevin Mirallas to take on Robert Huth before slotting the ball home with his left foot.

A counter attack from the Foxes brought the scores level. Islam Slimani profited, nutmegging goalkeeper Joel Robles before Marc Albrighton scored direct from a free-kick.

With only 23 minutes on the clock, Ross Barkley curled in a superb cross into the Premier League’s top scorer Romelu Lukaku who headed home to equalise.

Phil Jagielka then scored his second goal in two matches with a header from a corner, before Lukaku notched from close range after some poor defending from the Foxes.

The win sees Everton move level on points with sixth placed Man United, but Jose Mourinho’s United have three games in hand over Koeman’s outfit.

The Toffees are next in action against Burnley at Goodison Park on Saturday, as they look to close in on the Premier League’s top six.
