Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to reveal how enthralled he was by Celtic’s Champions League triumph on Tuesday night.

The Scottish giants scraped into the group stages of Europe’s premier competition with a 5-4 aggregate win in their play-off clash against Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

Celtic lost the second-leg in Israel 2-0 on Tuesday but their 5-2 advantage from the first leg was enough to guarantee their passage into the lucrative group stages of the Champions League.

Former England and Tottenham striker Lineker, who was anchoring BT Sport’s live coverage of the second leg, claimed on his personal Twitter account that Celtic were “making bloody hard work of this” but the dramatic nature of the encounter made for “good telly”.

Celtic are now in line for a £25million bounty for securing their place in the pre-Christmas Champions League group stages.
