Gary Lineker reacts on Twitter to Tottenham display against Chelsea

By Harry Sykes

Gary Lineker claimed Tottenham were “excellently coached” after they ended Chelsea’s winning run with a 2-0 win and “very good performance” against the league leaders on Wednesday night.

The Match of the Day host took to Twitter to hail his former club in the wake of their memorable triumph against their bitter London rivals.

Two goals from Dele Alli, his third consecutive league brace, secured a fifth consecutive Premier League victory for Maurico Pochettino’s in-form side.

It also ended the remarkable winning sequence of 13 consecutive wins from Chelsea, which equalled the record previously held solely by Arsenal.

Lineker claimed on his personal Twitter account that the victory for Tottenham had blown open a title race which Antonio Conte’s side had threatened to run away with.

“Well that’s livened things up,” Lineker said. “Very good performance from an excellently coached Spurs side”.

Lineker did not name Pochettino, but he was referring to the Argentine, who had set up his side in the same 3-4-3 system as Chelsea.

It paid dividends as the visitors struggled to carve out chances against a superbly organised Tottenham side.

The result at White Hart Lane means Chelsea lost the opportunity to go eight points clear but have ended the festive period five ahead of Liverpool in second.

Tottenham have leapfrogged Arsenal and Manchester City to be placed third in the table, where they are seven points adrift of their bitter London rivals in first.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs fans will be intrigued by how Thierry Henry responded when asked if he will support Tottenham against Chelsea.
