Gary Lineker tells senior Arsenal man to sign contract now (not Sanchez)

By Will Butcher

Gary Lineker has jokingly called on Arsene Wenger to confirm that he is signing a new contract with Arsenal on Tuesday.

Wenger is yet to announce that he is to sign a new deal with the Gunners after first taking over 21 years ago as Arsenal boss, with less than three months remaining on his current contract.

Match of the Day host Lineker posted on his personal Twitter account calling for Wenger to put pen to paper with the Gunners, with fans undecided on whether they want him to stay or go.

The former Everton, Tottenham and Barcelona striker believes Tuesday would be the “perfect time” for Wenger to announce a decision on his future, after Prime Minister Theresa May called for a surprise snap general election – despite previously claiming she wouldn’t.

Arsenal won their first Premier League match away from home since January 14 with a 2-1 win against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil cancelled out Alvaro Negredo’s equaliser to keep the Gunners’ thin Champions League qualification hopes alive.

Wenger’s side are currently in sixth position in England’s top flight, with seven points separating them from the top four as Man City sit in fourth on 64 points.

However, the north London giants have a game in hand over Pep Guardiola’s side and will be hopeful that they can catch up with seven games to go.

Arsenal next face Man City in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday, as they look to book their place in the final against either Chelsea or Tottenham.

In other Arsenal news, Liverpool are in a summer battle to sign this 23-year-old Premier League ace.
