Gary Lineker trolls Everton 23-year-old on Twitter

By Will Butcher

Gary Lineker has humorously trolled Romelu Lukaku on Twitter, challenging him to beat his record of 30 league goals for Everton this season after the Belgian scored his 19th of the 2016-17 campaign on Saturday.

Lukaku, 23, timed his leap well to meet a Ross Barkley cross, as he headed back across Ben Foster’s goal into the back of the net to secure a 3-0 win against West Brom in the 82nd minute.

Replying to a tweet from the Liverpool Echo, Lineker comically told Lukaku to “pull his finger out” on his personal Twitter account, and become the first to score 30 Everton league goals in one season since Lineker himself.

Former Barcelona, Tottenham and Toffees striker Lineker found the back of the net 30 times domestically in 1985-86, a record which has held firm since.

Now on 20 for the season in all competitions, Belgium international Lukaku has scored a fantastic 81 goals in just 156 league and cup encounters for the Toffees.

Lineker, 56, made just 57 appearances for the Toffees before leaving to join Barcelona, after scoring a total of 40 goals during his tome on Merseyside.

With 10 Premier League outings left, former West Brom and Chelsea striker Lukaku needs to hit a fantastic run of form if he is to reach Lineker’s record of 30 league goals in a season.

Lukaku will be hoping to reach the 20 mark on Saturday, as the Toffees face relegation threatened Hull City at Goodison Park as they look to close the gap on the top six.

In other Everton news, Lukaku has revealed he is inspired by this Chelsea legend.
