Gary Neville delivers mid-season verdict on Tottenham, shares view on Pochettino coaching

By Harry Sykes

Gary Neville has revealed he is a big fan of Mauricio Pochettino and has been impressed by Tottenham’s first half of the season.

Spurs started the new year with a bang when they thrashed Watford 4-1 at Vicarage Road on Sunday with a potent attacking display.

Two goals each from star men Harry Kane and Dele Alli handed Spurs their second convincing away win of the week following the 4-1 win at Southampton on Wednesday.

Pochettino’s side have now won four Premier League matches in succession to climb to fourth in the table for the first time since October.

They are making some headway in an extremely competitive battle for the title, although they remain a distant 10 points behind leaders Chelsea.

Sky Sports pundit and ex Manchester United defender Neville explained what has impressed him Tottenham and the coaching of their Argentine boss.

“I like Tottenham a lot,” Neville told the Sky Sports website. “I like Mauricio Pochettino a lot. I think they overachieve, in terms of the budget they have. They spend of course, but not to the level of Manchester United or City.

“They look well coached. You look at those players and you think you’d like to have those players. They’re young, hungry, energetic, they’ll do what you want, there’s not egos in there.”

Spurs’ next match is on Wednesday night when they host bitter rivals Chelsea at White Hart Lane.

Antonio Conte’s side will arrive at White Hart Lane on the back of a remarkable run of 13 consecutive Premier League wins.

In other Tottenham news, the club have agreed the terms of a 21-year-old move in January.
