Gelhardt in 'shock' at Leeds after training ground confession - Kenny
It will have come as a major “shock” to Joe Gelhardt when he made the step up to the first team at Leeds United.
That is the view of ex-Whites goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the youngster’s meteoric rise at Thorp Arch.
The 19-year-old centre-forward has four appearances under his belt for Leeds in 2021-22 and has been named in eight matchday squads.
Gelhardt signed from Wigan in August 2020 and initially trained with the under-23 team before making the step up this season.
As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post on 26 October, Gelhardt admitted it had been a “tough change” to adapt to Marcelo Bielsa’ standards.
The Argentine manager is renowned for his intense management style, both on matchday and the training pitch.

Kenny was not surprised to hear that Gelhardt found it difficult to keep up with Leeds’ ultra-fit senior stars in training.
“I struggled with that step up myself,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“The physical side was difficult for me. It can be really tough going from playing with the youth teams to the senior lads.
“Joe is only 19 years old. He has already played a couple of games and is regularly getting into the matchday squad.
“It will have been a bit of a shock to the system for him. But I’m sure there he’ll be getting used to it because know how highly he is valued.”
