‘Geovany Quenda heads for Chelsea straight after Sporting title campaign’

Geovany Quenda is set for an early link up with Chelsea following the Stamford Bridge club’s agreement to sign the versatile wideman.

This has been an eventful season for the 18-year-old, who has been a regular for Sporting CP to help them lift the Portuguese top-flight title.

Beyond that, the teenager also agreed to join the Blues, and in doing so Quenda rejected a reunion with his former manager Ruben Amorim at Man United.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was directly involved in talks to sign Quenda, and the two are now set to meet again sooner than might have been expected.

Geovany Quenda to get early England experience

Although the deal has already been announced and signed, Quenda is set to remain with Sporting for next season, before linking up with the Blues in the summer of 2026.

Despite that, the wideman looks as though he will soon be getting an experience of what will eventually become his new club.

According to a new update from the Daily Mail, the winger is due to visit Chelsea almost as soon as his own campaign is over.

Sporting play their final game of the season on Sunday (25 May), when they take on local rivals Benfica in the Portuguese Cup final.

The Blues have apparently been impressed while monitoring his progress since the deal was agreed, and for his part, the teenager is said to be keen to be a first-team contender immediately upon his proper Stamford Bridge next year.

As he prepares for his move to Chelsea, Quenda is reportedly stepping up his English lessons in order to ready himself for a switch to a new country.

Chelsea taking the right approach with new addition

Football Insider Verdict

While it will still be some time before he can play for the club, it still makes sense for the Blues to give their new signing an early taste of life at the club.

By doing this, it ensures that when he does make the move next summer, he will feel more familiar and more settled in his surroundings.

Even so, with suggestions that Chelsea only consider Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo to be “untouchable” at the minute, the squad could be rather different when he arrives.

That though, means Quenda may have a chance to achieve his apparent aim of going straight into the first-team when he officially joins Maresca‘s side.

With that in mind, giving him the chance to see what he could be part of now may give the wideman some extra motivation to continue to work hard in his preparations for that move.

If that proves to be the case, Chelsea may have a ready-made asset on their hands this time next season, meaning this does seem like a smart move.
