'Get them over the line' - Exclusive: Darren Bent reacts to senior West Ham man's transfer claim
Darren Bent has suggested that the board at West Ham will back David Moyes in the transfer window this month after he spoke about having funds to spend.
The former Tottenham and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that the Hammers chiefs cannot afford to hold off from strengthening the side after their poor start to the season.
The Irons sit 16th in the Premier League table, just two points off the relegation zone with six wins, four draws and 10 defeats from their opening 20 games.
With Moyes claiming “there is money to spend” should the Hammers need it, Bent insists David Gold and David Sullivan need to reach into their pockets to back their new boss, admitting he believes they will.
Asked if the Hammers could afford not to strengthen this month, Bent told Football Insider: “No, just because of where they are in the league. I think if they were near the top-half of the table and cruising, they might be like: ‘Well, I think we’re alright for now.’
“Because of where they are near the bottom of the table, they’ve not got time to go on a barren run because they could find themselves in the bottom three.

“I think they might give him (Moyes) a few more pennies to get them over the line.”
West Ham were big spenders over the summer transfer window, bringing in the likes of Sebastien Haller and Pablo Fornals to the London Stadium.
Their poor run of form saw Manuel Pellegrini lose his job and Moyes return to east London for a second stint in the dugout.
