Giorgios Giakoumakis expected to quit Celtic after low salary offer – pundit
Giorgos Giakoumakis is unhappy with his wages at Celtic.
That’s according to former Rangers right-back Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Giakoumakis’ future at Parkhead.
According to the Daily Record (1 December), the Hoops have been unable to reach an agreement over an improved contract for the 27-year-old.
The striker is believed to have dropped his wage demands significantly to make the move from VVV-Venlo last year with the understanding they would improve if he had a successful first season.
His current deal runs until 2026 but it now seems unlikely that an agreement will be reached over an extension and the Celts could lose the Greece international.
Hutton suggested wages could be a problem for the forward.
“I do not see why they would not want to sign him down to a long term deal,” he told Football Insider.
“Is wages an issue? Is he looking for parity with some of the top earners? Probably. You would have thought so and there might be a gap in valuation between his team and Celtic.“
“Personally I think he is the best finisher at the club. He is your go-to guy, big powerful striker.

“I would want to keep him at the club, I think he offers something different than what they already have.
“To lose him and potentially [Josip] Juranovic, these are two top players. They want to win the league and they don’t want to lose them at this moment in time.“
