Glasgow pundit issues ‘big’ Celtic claim after source’s Scott Bain reveal

Alan Hutton has suggested Scott Bain might want to stay at Celtic and be a “cheerleader” for the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender said he has come across goalkeepers who enjoy being a supporter within the club even though they are not playing regularly.

On 7 April, sources told this site that the 31-year-old is set to leave Parkhead this summer after more than five years of service to the Glasgow club.

The keeper will enter the final year of his contract in the summer and Scottish sides, as well as clubs from England’s second and third tier, are interested in a deal.

Bain has fallen down the pecking order in recent seasons and the Hoops are looking to bring in a new shot-stopper this summer.

The former Scotland international has failed to play a single minute of senior football this season but has been a regular feature on the bench.

Bain is one of four senior keepers in the ranks at Celtic alongside Joe Hart, Benjamin Siegrist and Conor Hazard.

When asked if Bain will want more regular football or if he would be happy to stay and not play, Hutton told Football Insider:It really comes down to what he wants.

Does he want to continue playing or is he happy at a big club where they are going to win trophies and he is happy just being part of that?

I have come across goalkeepers that actually quite like that role, of being a supporter, being a good guy around the club, keeping standards high. He might like that.

He might feel that he wants to be part of the winning team and go down in history as winning a treble or whatever it may be.

It is really going to fall on his lap, does he want to play football week in week out or is he happy to sit there and be a cheerleader at times.
