Glasgow pundit issues ‘massive’ Rangers claim as John Souttar cited – ‘they are buying players…’

Rangers fans have “forgotten” about John Souttar.

That’s according to former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Souttar’s injury woes at Ibrox.

The 26-year-old has made just one appearance for the Gers since his arrival from Hearts in the summer.

The defender suffered a major set-back shortly after arriving at Ibrox and has been sidelined ever since.

As quoted by the Herald (5 January), Michael Beale is hopeful the Scotland international will return in “January or February”.

The Light Blues boss added that Souttar has been “fantastic” and “very supportive of the team” despite such a difficult start to life in Glasgow.

When asked if the problems with the former Hearts man is down to poor recruitment, McAvennie told Football Insider:Of course it is.

They are buying players because they think they have to. That is wrong. Souttar’s fitness at Hearts was not great.

He was getting one game a week at Hearts and all of a sudden they want to play him two or three times a week. It is not going to happen. He is obviously not ready for that.

Rangers

I forgot he was there. It is a terrible situation. I was injured myself for a long time and it is a horrible thing but at least the fans knew who I was.

They do not even know if he is a good player. There is a massive difference between wearing the Hearts jersey and the Rangers jersey.

In other news, an expert has backed John Lundstram to sign new Rangers deal ‘as soon as possible’ amid ‘massive’ claim.
