Golden Boot Winner: Vardy key to Edouard completing ‘perfect’ Celtic transfer

This summer is the “perfect time” for Odsonne Edouard to leave Celtic and join Leicester City, according to Kevin Phillips.

The former Sunderland and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, urged the 23-year-old to move to the King Power Stadium to learn off Jamie Vardy.

The Daily Mail report that Leicester believe they have won the race to sign the French striker this summer for a fee in the region of £15million.

The move would see Edouard reunited with former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers, two years after the Northern Irishman’s exit from Parkhead.

Phillips said Edouard could greatly benefit from playing and training with Vardy, 34, while the latter is still at the peak of his powers.

“I think it would be a great time for him to go to Leicester because he could learn off Jamie Vardy,” he told Football Insider.

“Jamie still has another three or four years left in him so go and work alongside him while he is still a big influence. Training with him daily you could learn an awful lot.

“I think it would be the perfect time for Edouard to go to Leicester, be an understudy for Jamie or play alongside him in a two up top. I think that would be an exciting move.”

Edouard is the Scottish Premiership’s top goalscorer this season, with 16 goals in 25 league appearances.

He will have just 12 months left on his contract at Celtic Park by the end of the season.
