Goldson tipped to ‘walk away’ from Rangers after Ross Wilson clue – Glasgow pundit

Frank McAvennie claims Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson sent a clear message to Connor Goldson at the club’s Annual General Meeting.

The former Celtic hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, predicts the defender is asking for too much money while negotiating a new contract.

The Scottish Sun (30 November) quote Wilson as saying Rangers aren’t prepared to “break the wage structure” when quizzed about the topic at this week’s AGM.

However, he did go on to say the club is “really relaxed” over the current crop of players who are approaching the end of their deals.

Goldson is out of contract at the end of the season and Glasgow-based McAvennie claims he will walk away from Rangers.

“I don’t know what game Goldson is playing,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“To me, it looks like he’s playing for himself, rather than for Rangers.

“He thinks he’s better than everyone else, that’s how it seems to me anyway.

“I’m not seeing the other Rangers players asking for massive contracts.

“That has to be the reason, otherwise why would Wilson talk about wages and the structure?

“Someone at Rangers is asking for too much money and I think it’s Goldson.

“I think he will walk away on a free, I just can’t see them agreeing a new deal now.”

Rangers

Goldson has made 24 appearances for Rangers in all competitions this season.

He had scored one goal in those outings.
