Danny Mills has heaped praise on Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford for the way he has reacted to Rodrigo Moreno’s arrival.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Whites and England full-back claimed the 27-year-old has found another level this season and has reacted in the right way to Rodrigo’s signing.
Bamford told the official Leeds United podcast he feared he would be spending the season on the bench after the Spain international moved to Elland Road for a club-record £29million fee in August.
Instead, the Englishman has thrived this season and has already found the net 10 times in the Premier League while Rodrigo has operated in a midfield role.
“No player wants to be out of the side, every single player wants to play,” Mills told Football Insider. “
“It’s all credit to Patrick Bamford. The fact that he’s identified a potential threat to his place.
“As well as he did in the Championship, there’s clearly competition for places and he’s thought ‘right, ok, I need to go to another level, I need to step up again.’ All credit to him for that.
“That’s what you want. You have two options if you’re a player at a club and they sign another player.
“You can either sulk and feel a little bit sorry for yourself or you go ‘you know what, if you want this shirt, that’s fine but you’re going to have to rip it off my back because I am not going to let it go easily. I am not going to take it off just because you’ve come in for big money. I’ve been here and done well and I’m now going to go on and do even better.’”
