Alex Rae raves about Rangers swoop for 22-year-old after Jan deal is wrapped up

Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae believes the signing of Jason Cummings is a “very good piece of business” by the Gers as they try and close the gap to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
Cummings, 22, became Rangers third new face of the transfer window when his loan deal was wrapped up after Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy before quickly being followed in the door at Ibrox by Scotland defender Russell Martin.
Gers boss Graeme Murty has undertaken a sizable revamp of his squad so far this month and Cummings is arguably the signing that has got most people talking.
The former Hibs striker agreed a season-long loan deal with the option to make it permanent in the summer and Rae believes he could be the “striker of substance” the Ibrox giants need.
“They need a striker of substance in front of goals. I was looking at his record – 134 starts and 73 goals. It is very good viewing,” Rae said, as quoted by BBC Scotland.
“I feel as if he’ll get more chances at Rangers as well because they will have a lot more of the ball.
“You are getting a player who, as recently as the summer, has moved for a considerable fee and it hasn’t quite worked out for him. From Rangers point of view, it is a very good piece of business.”
Cummings joined Forest in the summer and linked up with former Rangers boss Mark Warburton at the City Ground.
The Scotland international struggled to win down a regular place with the Championship strugglers and when Warburton was sacked and replaced with Aitor Karanka, Cummings became surplus to requirements.
During his time with Forest, Cummings managed four goals in seventeen appearances.
Before heading south, Cummings was part of the Hibs side who lifted the Scottish Cup and scored 71 times in 149 appearances for the Easter Road side.
