Murty reveals what his players have said about Rangers title challenge
Graeme Murty has insisted that his players have not been talking about winning the Premiership ahead of Sunday’s Old Firm derby.
There had been suggestions that his team were being very outspoken pre-match and the players were heard cheering in the dressing room when the Light Blues were drawn against the Hoops in the Scottish Cup.
Speaking in the Daily Record, however, Murty tried to play things down ahead of the Old Firm clash.
“Celtic, or any other club, don’t need to use anything I’m going to say. There has been no talk of title challenges from us whatsoever.
“They’re on top, the champions, and we are chasing them but we need to make sure we’re not just defined by this one game. We have to make sure we accelerate.”
Despite Murty talking down Gers chances of a title win his side are on a high right now and very much the league’s in-form team.

And they could not have been boosted anymore going into the Celtic clash than by the announcement of the club to extend the contract of Alfredo Morelos who will remain at Ibrox until 2021 after the club rebuffed a number of multi-million-pound bids from China.
Football Insider verdict:
Murty insists there has been no talk of a championship challenge within the ranks but there will be if he wins on Sunday. At Ibrox he has a group of confident players who know their abilities and can see how close they are to pulling the Hoops back within reach – if they do win he will be using the appeal of an SPL medal to fire his players up week in and week out. So far whatever he has been doing is working.
