Murty reveals how Rangers squad have been ripping into new signing in training
Graeme Murty has revealed Rangers’ new arrivals Jamie Murphy, Sean Goss and Jimmy Nicholl are settling in well with their new colleagues – with Murphy the target of some training ground “classics.”
Murphy and Goss have joined the Gers on loan – with Murphy to complete a permanent move in the summer – with Nicholl appointed as Murty’s assistant.
The three new faces have joined the Gers at their Florida training camp before the Gers face Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians in the Florida Cup.
Murty joked Nicholl wasn’t impressed with being sent to a 12-hour press conference and admitted the new signings were all integrating well.
“It’s been good. Jamie has had the usual stick, as soon as you have a bad touch the boys are out screaming at him ‘How much?’ and ‘Are you sure it’s a loan, have you got to try before you buy?’ – all the classics,” Murty said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“But they have gone about their business quietly, they’ve integrated really well and Jimmy is an absolute revelation.
“He spent 12 hours at a press conference yesterday and he wasn’t very happy with me sending him to that! But he’s been great in and around the place.
“He’s already in the guys’ psyche and he’s already got them on board hopefully. But he’s been great just as a sounding board for me personally.”
The Gers face their first game in the Florida Cup on Friday morning when they face Atletico Mineiro and Murphy and Goss are both expected to be involved at some stage against the Brazilians.
Murty’s side return to domestic action on January 21st when they travel north to take on Highland League minnows Fraserburgh in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.
Midfielder Goss moved to Ibrox from Championship side Queens Park Rangers while Murphy joined his boyhood heroes from Premier League new boys Brighton.
Former Gers full-back Nicholl was most recently assistant to Falkirk manager Paul Hartley but left the Falkirk Stadium to return to Ibrox.
In other Rangers transfer news, the club are working on beating Celtic to the signing of a 22-year-old goal machine ripping up the league.
