Graeme Souness offers his thoughts on Tottenham mindset after Chelsea open up seven point lead
By Amir Mir
Graeme Souness believes Tottenham will now face a big mental test after Chelsea beat Southampton 4-2 on Tuesday night.
Mauricio Pochettino will be preparing his team for a crucial clash against Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening, knowing dropped points could end their title hopes.
Spurs are now seven points behind leaders Chelsea in the table, who overcame the threat of Claude Puel’s team last night.
Striker Diego Costa netted a brace for his side as they picked up a much-needed three points at Stamford Bridge, which edges them closer to the title.
Ahead of their tie against Palace, Souness offered his thoughts on what Spurs’ mindset will be like after pressure was put on them by their title rivals.

“But that is what they [Chelsea] have done by winning tonight,” Souness told Sky Sports 1 on Tuesday night after the Chelsea game.
“They have gone ‘here you are, we have done the business now it is over to you see if you can deal with it’.
“It is still a relatively young Tottenham team that will have learnt from their experience last year, but it is now firmly on their toes.”
This time last season, Tottenham were chasing eventual winners Leicester City in the title race before they crumbled towards the end of the campaign.
Defeat at Stamford Bridge handed the Foxes the English crown as they then went on to suffer a 5-1 defeat away at relegated Newcastle on the last day of the season.
This resulted in them finishing third in the table and once again finishing below their north London rivals Arsenal.
The White Hart Lane faithful will be hoping their young squad has learnt from last season’s experience as they are currently 14 points ahead of Arsene Wenger’s men.
They are set to meet Arsenal on April 30, with West Ham and Manchester United following that mouthwatering fixture.
