Graham Potter embroiled in ‘West Ham disaster’ as sack inquest intensifies

Graham Potter is facing increasing pressure on his position as West Ham manager, according to their former senior scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Blackburn and remains very well-connected at his former clubs, exclusively told Football Insider that “serious questions” are being asked as a result of their “disastrous” form.

The Hammers have won just three games since Potter replaced Julen Lopetegui in January, and have dropped to 17th in the league table.

They have now gone eight games without a win, earning comparisons to the likes of Russell Martin and Ruud van Nistelrooy at relegated Southampton and Leicester.

West Ham fans have begun turning on Potter, something Brown explained will only add to the pressure as discontent continues to grow at the London Stadium.

However, Football Insider revealed on 13 April that West Ham are unlikely to sack Potter and will instead look to back him in the transfer market.

West Ham to make Graham Potter sack decision

Brown told Football Insider on 28 April that Potter is not happy at West Ham and has quickly learned the harsh reality of managing at the London Stadium.

The former scout who has a wealth of experience working closely alongside top-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Man United, insisted the blame for their poor form will ultimately rest with the manager.

Serious questions are going to be asked of Potter,” he told Football Insider.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, if you go eight, nine, ten games in a row without winning a game in the Premier League, your job is in danger.

“We saw it with Russell Martin earlier in the season and more recently with Ruud van Nistelrooy.

“So from that point of view, Potter will come under the same scrutiny as them.

“It’s been a disaster since he took over, they’ve dropped right down the table and there’s been no sign of any real improvement.

“It’s not all his fault, their squad is a bit all over the place and there are key positions they really need to improve in when the window opens.

“But ultimately the blame for their performances will rest with the manager.

“The fans have started to turn as well, they’re making their frustrations heard, and when that starts to happen it’s always a dangerous situation.”

Hammers plot move to sign Burnley star Josh Brownhill

Amid uncertainty about the manager’s position, the Hammers are planning for a busy summer transfer window in a bid to strengthen their options.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 5 May that West Ham want to sign Burnley’s Josh Brownhill if he leaves the club on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old will be out of contract in June and no decision has been made about his future despite their promotion to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed that West Ham are readying a squad overhaul as they aim to back Potter in the transfer window.
