Grealish tipped to start as footage emerges of Aston Villa star pre-England v Scotland
Paul Robinson has tipped England manager Gareth Southgate to start Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish against Scotland.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 41-times England international claimed the 25-year-old did not play in the opening game against Croatia because Southgate wanted to stretch the pitch with the pace of Raheem Sterling.
Grealish was an unused substitute in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Croatia at Wembley.
Great start to the tournament 🙌🏻🏴♥️

His omission came to the frustration of some who wanted the attacking midfielder to start after two impressive performances in England’s warm-up games.
Villa’s captain was looking sharp in a shooting drill posted on England’s Twitter on Monday before training away from the group on Tuesday.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if he expected Grealish to start against Scotland on Friday, Robinson said:

“I think Gareth will go a little bit more attacking and probably start Grealish against Scotland.
“Grealish is the only one who can feel slightly aggrieved that he didn’t start against Croatia because he was really impressive in the warm up games.
“Against Scotland, Phillips or Rice may drop out and Grealish may come into the XI. I think Grealish will play and I think he was unlucky not to play in the first game.
“The reason he didn’t was because Gareth wanted to stretch the pitch instead of having a team full of players who want the ball to beet. Sterling gives you an option in behind. It will be a different game against Scotland though because they will probably play a low block.
“This is a squad game and everyone will play their part if we go far in the tournament. If they beat Scotland they’re through and momentum is a huge thing in tournaments.”
