Alan Hutton claims that the Aston Villa squad would welcome Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos “with open arms” as the Villans eye up a move for the Colombian.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa defender and boyhood Gers fan says that the South American is the sort of player who would match the same levels of ambition as those at the midlands giants, having dazzled at Ibrox since his arrival.
As revealed by Football Insider, the Villans are set to keep close tabs on the 23-year-old as they plot a potential transfer move, with £20million set aside to bolster their centre forward options in January.
Hutton insists that despite having a relatively young squad at Villa Park, the players have a hugely professional approach and that Dean Smith’s men would love playing with Morelos were he to move south of the border.
Asked how the squad would react to Morelos’ signing, Hutton told Football Insider: “There is a great squad at Villa, a lot of young boys there also with really great attitudes.
“They make everyone feel welcome, I’ve been part of Villa for a long, long time so they would welcome him with open arms and take him on board. I’m sure he’s just like any other young boy who wants to come in and do well for himself.
“He’d be a great addition, I would think.”
Morelos has been in exceptional goal-scoring form over the last couple of seasons, hitting 30 across all competitions during the 2018/19 campaign.
He has continued to show he knows where the back of the net is with 14 in 18 this term and would be a welcome addition to Villa Park with just Wesley Moraes and Jonathan Kodjia as senior strikers available to manager Smith.
In other Aston Villa news, Darren Bent admits he is “uncertain” about one new Villa arrival who started the win against Norwich City.
