'Great news for Celtic' - Exclusive: Pundit blown away by Hoops development

Frank McAvennie is over the moon Celtic winger James Forrest is set to return to first-team action this month.

The Parkhead legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, expects the 29-year-old to return within a fortnight in what he described as “great news” for Neil Lennon’s side.

Forrest has been sidelined for just over three months after he sustained an ankle injury in a 3-2 win over Livingston.

Last week Hoops boss Neil Lennon revealed that the Scotland international was in “great shape” ahead of a return later this month.

McAvennie welcome the return of the “big game player” after a difficult start to the 2020/21 campaign.

“It is great news that he is nearly back,” he told Football Insider.

“He is a big game player for Celtic. He is one of the boys that can do damage, he can score goals.

“They will take their time with him. He is not going to come back in this weather, it will be a week or so I would think.

“I just hope he gets back to full fitness and back to his best.”

Speaking on Celtic’s plans in the January transfer window, Lennon told BBC: “We may look in the wide areas but Jamesy is not a million miles away.

“He looks in great shape, he’s a consummate professional and having him back will be like a new signing really.”

In other news, Celtic have been told to sign defensive colossus in the January transfer window amid updates on two of the club’s centre-back targets.
