'Great signing for Tottenham' - Ex-Spurs boss drools over 28-y/o as move reportedly on the cards

By Richard Parks

Harry Redknapp has drooled over Gareth Bale and claimed he would love to see the Real Madrid superstar return to his former club Tottenham this summer.

The 28-year-old’s future is in doubt at the Spanish giants after losing his starting place for the marquee fixtures in recent months.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo previously reported that Spurs were lining up a move in the summer transfer window to re-sign Bale, while Manchester United are also expected to be in the hunt for his signature.

Redknapp, who managed Bale during his time at Tottenham, has explained that he would love to see the Wales international back in the Premier League and feels he could make a huge impact were he to return to White Hart Lane for a second spell.

“Gareth would be a great signing for Tottenham, it would be fantastic,” Redknapp said on Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast programme on talkSPORT.

“He’s an amazing player. He can play so many positions and in so many systems, there are so many strings to his bow, he’s such a fantastic talent.

“Going back to Tottenham – if he comes back [to the Premier League] he would only go to a top-six club, but it would be nice to see him go back to Spurs.”

Football Insider verdict:

It would certainly be a sensational capture were Bale to return to Spurs. But it is unlikely given the cost of the deal, with his transfer fee and wages surely out of reach for the Londoners, who operate in a different bracket in the market to the big spenders. Nevertheless, it would be no surprise were the Welshman to head back to the Premier League after losing his place for the big games at Real, where injuries have taken a major toll. His talent is not in doubt, and his numbers still remain impressive in terms of goals and assists. Redknapp is right. Bale would be a brilliant signing for an ambitious English club.

In other Tottenham news, the club have blown Manchester United out of the water to seal the signing of 2018, with many claiming the deal is now done.
