‘Greedy’ Man United could sign another midfielder after McTominay update – pundit
Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Man United could still sign a new defensive midfielder this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward suggested Man United have already spent their transfer budget this summer but may be “greedy” and land another.
The Premier League giants have already added Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to the squad that finished second last season.
However, there have been calls to add a defensive midfielder to compliment Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking options.
The club were dealt a blow today (26 August) after it was confirmed Scott McTominay has undergone surgery on a groin injury.
The Athletic report he could miss a month of action as a result.
Asked for his assessment of Man United’s transfer business, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “If you were being greedy you could say yes, another defensive midfielder.
“But if you look at the team, when everybody’s fit, there’s only really space for one of them. McTominay is better than Fred for me.
“So you’re looking at McTominay with Pogba and Fernandes in front. Then Marcus Rashford on the left, Jadon Sancho on the right with Mason Greenwood up front. That team sounds frightening.
“As much as you could be looking at one, it would have to be the right deal for Man United.
“They’ve spent quite a bit of money already this summer as well.”

Man United spent over £100million on the additions of Sancho and Varane.
Sancho has featured from their bench in their opening two Premier League games while Varane is yet to make his debut.
In other news, there has been a huge update on West Ham’s bid to sign Jesse Lingard from Man United after talks today.
