Guglielmo Vicario sends message as his full Tottenham comeback stats emerge

Guglielmo Vicario has sent a message to Tottenham fans after he made an emphatic return to the starting line-up during their win against Man United on Sunday (16 February).

Spurs defeated the 20-time champions 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with a first-half James Maddison goal being enough to separate the teams.

The win allowed Tottenham to climb into 12th in the Premier League table as they went a point above United.

The game marked the return of Spurs’ 28-year-old goalkeeper for the first time since Vicario fractured his ankle against Man City on 23 November.

Ange Postecoglou has been without his first-choice goalkeeper ever since then in what has been an injury-plagued period for Tottenham.

Vicario has missed 21 matches in total across all competitions, but the Spurs boss wasted no time in throwing him back into the starting lineup as soon as he was available.

The Italy international rewarded Postecoglou’s faith by picking up his fourth clean sheet of the season in the Premier League in what was his 13th appearance.

Vicario’s return to the starting lineup was something that pleased Spurs fans, and the goalkeeper celebrated the situation on Instagram.

He said, “I can’t explain how much I’ve missed you. What a feeling guys #COYS.”

Vicario was made to work during his comeback match as he made six saves, two punches, and five recoveries.

He was 92 per cent accurate with his passes and made 32 touches throughout the fixture as he commanded his area and looked comfortable on the ball in his return.

James Maddison silences Roy Keane after astonishing put-down

Vicario wasn’t the only Tottenham player who successfully returned from injury against United, as this was also Maddison’s first game back from a calf problem.

It only took the England international 13 minutes to get back amongst the goals as he reminded fans of his attacking qualities.

Maddison also sent a personal message to Roy Keane during his celebrations as he looked to silence the United legend after his brutal put-down earlier in the week.
