Guimaraes, Saka react to Anthony Gordon after ‘huge’ Newcastle exit update

Anthony Gordon’s latest social media post away from Newcastle United fielded reactions from a multitude of Premier League stars.

The 24-year-old was largely in and out of Eddie Howe‘s starting lineup during the second half of the season, with Jacob Murphy, Harvey Barnes, and Alexander Isak starring in attack.

Despite falling down the pecking order at St James’ Park, Football Insider understands that Liverpool would have to agree a £75million-plus fee for Gordon in a “huge” deal amid links with Anfield.

The former Everton winger has long been linked with a switch to the opposite side of Merseyside, and with another 15 goal contributions in 2024/25, it is easy to see why.

If Arne Slot’s team are to make a move for the 24-year-old’s signature, it could take quite a hefty fee to drag him away from St James’ Park this summer, but the Reds are eager to splash the cash.

Liverpool linked with Newcastle star Anthony Gordon

Taking to Instagram (12 June), Gordon shared a series of images from his time away from St James’ Park, simply captioned: “Slow,” gaining likes from multiple Premier League stars.

Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier, Lewis Hall, and Sven Botman all liked the post, joined by Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice, as well as Morgan Gibbs-White and Jarrad Branthwaite.

Football Insider verdict

While Gordon is heavily linked with an exit, Football Insider understands that Newcastle are growing in confidence that Isak and Guimaraes will remain with the Magpies this summer.

Sandro Tonali, Tino Livramento, and Nick Pope have also been linked with possible exits this summer, but after securing Champions League football, the summer transfer window becomes a much less scary place.

The Magpies finished fifth in the Premier League, just three points behind Chelsea, who beat Nottingham Forest on the final day of the season, while Howe’s team faced defeat against Everton.

Finishing above the Europa League and Europa Conference League spaces has been an incredible gift for the Magpies, with Aston Villa now facing severe PSR repercussions due to their standing.

After lifting the Carabao Cup, beating Liverpool in the final at Wembley Stadium, Howe will be more keen now than ever to kick on and achieve more, and supporters will believe that it is possible.

The former Bournemouth manager has given the fans a newfound hope at St James’ Park, and this is likely just the beginning of the team lifting silverware now.
