Gunners idol mocks Tottenham as Antonio Conte fumes – ‘Arsenal are in his head’

Kevin Campbell has insisted Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was right to “fight his corner” over scheduling concerns.

The former Gunners striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 39-year-old Spaniard is “in the head” of Antonio Conte after his comments on the matter.

As quoted by Metro last week (17 March), Arteta blasted the “unfair” scheduling which saw Arsenal face Liverpool and Aston Villa with just under 65 hours between the Premier League fixtures.

Speaking last Friday and quoted by the BBC (18 March), Conte clapped back at the Gunners boss – insisting it is “not right to speak about fair or unfair” after the postponement of the north London derby in January.

The crunch meeting was cancelled despite just one case of COVID-19 in the Arsenal squad, according to the BBC.

Campbell backed Arteta for “making his voice heard” on the matter.

“Listen, Conte is a very experienced manager,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“But I didn’t know what Arteta says had so much pull with him.

“If Arteta feels that the fixtures haven’t been kind to him, he’s not going to stay quiet about it, is he? He’s the manager.

“We’ve seen Klopp do it, we’ve seen Pep do it – they’ve all done it.

“What Arteta is doing now is just making his voice heard. I don’t mind Conte commenting on it, but I’d worry if Arteta wasn’t fighting his corner and sticking up for himself.

“Conte’s comments could suggest that Arsenal are in his head right now.”

Just three points separate Arsenal and Tottenham in the Premier League with the postponed clash yet to be rearranged.

Spurs have played one more game than their rivals – who currently sit in fourth place.
