‘Gutted’ Kelechi Iheanacho disappointed with what Celtic have done

Celtic summer signing Kelechi Iheanacho has shared a message with Celtic supporters after scoring in their Europa League draw with Red Star Belgrade.

On Wednesday, 24 September, Celtic drew 1-1 with Red Star Belgrade in Serbia, as Marko Arnautovic’s opener for the hosts cancelled out Iheanacho’s opener.

Brendan Rodgers’ men face Braga on home soil in their next Europa League game on Thursday, 2 October.

Meanwhile, Stillyan Petrov slammed Celtic for their lack of energy in their draw with Red Star Belgrade on 24 September.

Kelechi Iheanacho is ‘gutted’ Celtic didn’t claim a Europa League win

In their last Scottish Premiership game on 14 September, Celtic defeated Kilmarnock 2-1, thanks to goals from Daizen Maeda and Iheanacho.

The latter was on target yet again when Rodgers’ side yielded a 1-1 draw from their opening Europa League game.

Taking to Instagram on 24 September, he wrote: “European nights! Gutted we didn’t get the win tonight, we go again next week.

“Thank you to our amazing fans for the support.”

Fellow summer signing Sebastian Tounekti commented: “Senior man.”

In the summer transfer window, star man Daizen Maeda wanted to leave Celtic, and has not been in good form since, scoring just two goals in 10 appearances across all competitions this term.

Meanwhile, the Bhoys have become increasingly reliant on Iheanacho, who has scored two goals and produced one assist in three appearances, even though his only start came in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final victory over Partick Thistle.

The 28-year-old striker has scored from the bench in both the Premiership and the Europa League, showing he is capable of starting against Hibernian on Saturday, 27 September.

Rodgers’ side currently sit level on points with Hearts in the top-flight title race, which is a situation they will be eager to rectify as soon as possible.

Iheanacho’s form suggests that he can inspire the Glaswegian club to a victory over Hibernian, if Rodgers allows him a chance to lead the line.
