Hamilton and Alloa make moves to sign Rangers attacker McPake – sources
Hamilton and Alloa have registered their interest in signing Rangers winger Josh McPake, sources have told Football Insider.
McPake has returned to pre-season at the club’s Auchenhowie headquarters, but the club need to resolve his future quickly as he is approaching 22 and too old to play within the club’s academy set-up.
Rangers would look to sell McPake this summer to get him off the wage bill, but due to clubs struggling to match his current salary a loan looks the most likely option.
The winger’s current contract runs until 2024 but he has made just one appearance for the first team since moving up from the academy last summer.
McPake has spent the majority of his career out on loan where he has struggled with off field and discipline issues.
Earlier this year (4 March), Football Insider revealed that the Gers were considering terminating the 21-year-old’s contract a year early after failing to offload him in the January window.
The Glasgow club hoped to get the attacker off their wage bill in the winter but there was no concrete interest in a permanent deal.
Rangers fined McPake after disciplinary issues off the pitch after his sixth loan spell turned sour.

The academy graduate made 33 appearances for Queen’s Park in what was an impressive campaign for the Championship club where they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premiership.
McPake was in the starting lineup for 17 of those outings and netted four goals and provided three assists.
