Hannibal Mejbri: Man United star to reach agreement after multiple offers – sources

Man United are expected to trigger the one-year extension option in Hannibal Mejbri’s contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The 20-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

United could now move to extend that deal but Mejbri may yet depart Old Trafford this month as the club weigh up loan offers for the youngster.

It is believed the Red Devils are yet to decide if the midfielder will depart temporarily.

The 27-cap Tunisia international has made 10 appearances across all competitions so far this season – including a start in the Champions League against Galatasaray and in the Premier League against Burnley.

He also started in each of United’s League Cup games prior to their elimination against Newcastle in the fourth round.

The 20-year-old is vastly experienced on the international level but decided against going to this month’s African Cup of Nations with the Tunisia squad.

His coach Jalel Kadri said: “Hannibal told me that he did not feel ready for the African Cup of Nations because he is going through an important situation at his club.”

The France-born star spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Championship Birmingham.

He made 41 appearances across all competitions for the Blues, notching one goal and six assists.

Mejbri came through the ranks at Paris FC and AS Monaco before leaving for Man United in 2019.

United could also field multiple loan offers from EFL clubs for academy gem Dan Gore, 19, this month.

But Football Insider revealed on Sunday (31 December) that the former Burnley youngster is expected to stay put at Old Trafford after impressing coaching staff at Carrington and making his senior debut.
