‘Hard to imagine’ – Jamie Vardy sends emotional message in response to Leicester City news

Jamie Vardy has continued to keep a close eye on Leicester City since leaving the Foxes at the end of last season.

Vardy attracted interest from the likes of Birmingham City in the summer transfer window before joining Italian outfit Cremonese.

The 38-year-old’s former club have drawn four successive games in the Championship, and will be determined to beat Swansea City on Saturday, 4 October.

Since Vardy moved to Cremonese, Davide Nicola’s men have enjoyed a five game unbeaten run in the Italian top flight.

Susan Whelan steps down as Leicester CEO

Leicester targeted a move for Millwall striker Mihailo Ivanovic in the summer transfer window following Vardy’s departure, but he has subsequently signed a new contract with the Lions.

The Foxes have scored just two goals in their last three Championship games, and would have benefitted from adding more firepower to their ranks in the summer.

Meanwhile, the East Midlands side confirmed that Susan Whelan stepped down as Chief Executive Officer on Thursday, 2 October, concluding a 15-year stint at the King Power Stadium.

Vardy responded to the news via his Instagram story on Friday, 3 October: “It’s hard to imagine Leicester without Susan. She’s been such a constant presence, not just in her work, but in the way she’s poured her heart into the people around her.

Susan has given so much of herself, time, energy, passion loyalty. She stood by people, worked tirelessly, and always went above and beyond, not because she had to, but because that’s simply who she is.

Those of us who know Susan personally know her value goes far beyond titles and positions. She is a force of kindness and clarity, a friend who listens without judgement and speaks truth with courage.

On a personal level, I can’t thank Susan enough for everything she did for me. She believed in me when I doubted myself, she encouraged me when I was struggling, and she always had the right words at the right time.

Her kindness, honesty, and wisdom have left a mark on my life that I’ll carry with me always. Thank you, Susan, for everything you’ve done, not only for me personally but also my family. You’ve made a bigger difference than you’ll ever know.

We wish you all the success for the future.”

Jamie Vardy is yet to make his mark at Cremonese

Vardy left Leicester as a legend of the King Power Stadium club, who notched a remarkable tally of 200 goals in 500 appearances for the Foxes.

Leicester supporters will never forget the key role he played in their historic 2015/16 Premier League title triumph, before the striker helped them win the FA Cup in 2021.

However, after joining Cremonese late in the summer transfer window, the former England international has made just one Serie A appearance, and he was an unused substitute when they drew 1-1 with Como last time out.

Vardy’s new club have enjoyed a five-game unbeaten run in Serie A, with two wins and three successive draws, but that run could come to an end when they face last season’s Champions League finalists Inter on Saturday, 4 October.

The former Leicester man has an early opportunity to announce himself on the Italian top-flight stage by performing well against Inter.
