Harry Kane breaks social media silence after Phil Foden and Cole Palmer fall-out
Harry Kane has taken to social media for the first time since hitting out at his fellow England stars like Phil Foden and Cole Palmer for withdrawing from the squad.
The 31-year-old Bayern Munich star took the rare step of swiping at the likes of injury absentees Foden, Declan Rice, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka and Jack Grealish for what he saw as putting their clubs ahead of England.
Speaking ahead of their UEFA Nations League game against Greece, Kane diverted from his usual non-confrontational self to very publicly slap down the nine players who decided to withdraw from Lee Carsley’s last squad as interim manager.
Kane told ITV: “I think the joy to play for England – he (Southgate) brought that back. Every camp people were excited and wanted to play for England.
“That is the most important thing, England comes before anything. It comes before club. It is the most important thing you play for as a professional footballer. Gareth was hot on that and not afraid to make decisions if that started to drift from certain players.
“It’s a shame this week. It’s a tough period of the season and maybe it’s been taken advantage of a little bit. I don’t really like it, if I’m totally honest. I think England comes before any club situation.”
His comments come after multiple players, including Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, have criticised the sport’s governing bodies for an overloaded schedule.
Harry Kane furious after multiple England withdrawals
Despite his recent comments, the England captain was omitted for the game against Greece, with understudy Ollie Watkins scoring the opener after just seven minutes.
An Odisseas Vlachodimos own-goal and outrageous back-heel from Curtis Jones secured all three points for England after their shock defeat in the reverse fixture.
Delighted with the result, Kane ignored the fall-out from his comments to take to Instagram to congratulate Jones, Lewis Hall, and Morgan Rogers on their successful debuts.

There is still more work to be done as England face the Republic of Ireland in their next UEFA Nations League game on Sunday (November 17).
Carsley’s side are currently top of their group and could be well placed to earn their first piece of silverware since 1966 when Thomas Tuchel takes over in the new year.
