Harry Kane could now quit Tottenham after new ‘talks’ – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Harry Kane is “irreplaceable” at Tottenham amid speculation over his future at the club.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested trophy success this season could persuade the 29-year-old to pledge his future to his boyhood side.

Kane has been extensively linked with Bayern Munich in recent months with the England captain having less than two years remaining on his Tottenham contract.

Speaking to German outlet Sport1 (11 September), Bayern chief Hasan Salihamidzic has been forced to deny any talks with the striker.

According to the London Evening Standard (12 September), Kane would be open to discussing a new contract with Antonio Conte’s side.

Whelan suggested Tottenham face a “tough decision” if their talisman wishes to move to Bayern next summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Keeping hold of Harry Kane is key to them becoming title challengers.

“If you get rid of an England captain, a top goalscorer – then that’s a real step back. He’s irreplaceable.

“It’s not something the Tottenham fans or players will want to see.

“It’s a really tough decision for the club, and a lot depends on this season for Kane’s future.

“He will be wanting to see how far they’ve come under Conte. If they win a cup this season or go far in the Champions League – that could decide the future for Kane.”

Kane has already notched five goals in six league games for Tottenham so far this season.

He has notched the third-most goals in Premier League history (188), behind Wayne Rooney (208) and Alan Shearer (260).
