Harry Kane shares how seriously Tottenham would take Europa League

By Dominic Toner

Harry Kane claims that Tottenham want to win the Europa League this season.

The European competition is often disliked because of its Thursday fixtures, but Kane believes it a great opportunity for Spurs to win a trophy.

The north London club have endured a horrific Champions League campaign and have been eliminated from the competition at the group stages.

Spurs will still qualify for the Europa League knockout rounds if they avoid defeat against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night at Wembley.

Kane has revealed that his side are still targeting success in Europe despite a negative start.

“We have to finish the group with a bit of pride, qualify for the Europa League and then try to win it because that’s what football is all about, winning trophies,” Kane said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

Spurs could join English pairing Manchester United and Southampton in the knockout round, with both teams facing crucial group stages matches on Thursday.

Mauricio Pocehttino’s side may show the Europa League extra attention as the winner automatically qualify for the Champions League the following season.

The race for the Premier League’s top four is extremely close this season and Spurs are currently fifth-placed in the table, three points behind Manchester City in fourth.

Spurs have not won a major competition since beating Chelsea in the 2007/08 League Cup final and will be looking to end that run this season.
