‘Harry Kane signing to soften Liverpool blow of Mohamed Salah exit’
Liverpool could prioritise a move for Harry Kane in the summer transfer window if the club are unable to agree a new contract for Mohamed Salah, according to an ex-striker.
Often this season, Salah’s ongoing contractual situation has overshadowed Arne Slot’s impressive first campaign in English football.
Despite the Egyptian winger being on course to put up his best numbers in a Liverpool shirt, having scored 27 goals and assisted 17 times in 29 Premier League appearances, the club are yet come to an agreement to renew his terms.
The Red’s currently sit 12 points clear of title rivals Arsenal with only nine games remaining, however a key focus between now and the end of the season will be to sort the future of not only Salah, but Trent Alexander-Arnold and club captain Virgil van Dijk as well.

Harry Kane to replicate Salah’s goals for Liverpool
Speaking live via talkSPORT [Monday 24 March, 5:12pm] host Andy Goldstein asked: “If Salah left Liverpool would Harry Kane soften the blow?”
Bent replied: “Yeah it must do. Liverpool fans will not want to lose Salah, but if the owner and Salah can’t get on the same page for a new contract, but Harry Kane is coming in, I think most Liverpool fans would take that.”
“Goal for goal they [Kane and Salah] are similar.”
Harry Kane’s release clause to drop to £54 million
Football Insider verdict
Reports suggest that Kane was available for £67 million during the most recent transfer window, with his release clause set to drop further to £54 million in January 2026.
If that is the case, many top clubs around the world will be keeping an eye on Kane’s situation at Bayern, with there being a real shortage of proven world-class finishers.
Mohamed Salah at Liverpool | Harry Kane at Bayern Munich |
27 goals | 21 goals |
17 assists | 8 assists |
Having scored 279 goals in 428 appearances for Tottenham, there is little doubt that Kane would make an instant impact at Liverpool and be the best option the club could sign to replace Salah.
As Bent alluded to in the same discussion Newcastle would surely have their eye on him as well if they are unable to keep Alexander Isak at St. James’ Park for next season, while Man United have long been tipped as a potential destination.
After netting his 70th and 71st for England in the Wembley wins over Albania and Latvia respectively Kane delivered a reminder that he is about as sure a source of goals as exists in world football currently.
Whether Bayern might convince him to forego a return to the Premier League remains to be seen, but if he’s available it seems certain there will be plenty of takers.
And should Slot’s side be reigning champions as expected, the opportunity to finally add a title back at home might be too much to ignore.
