‘Harry Kane to cost £100m with £400,000-a-week wages’ – Stefan Borson
Harry Kane has been in sensational goalscoring form since making his move from Tottenham to Bayern Munich 18 months ago.
The England captain has registered a remarkable 72 goals and 22 assists in 73 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, including 28 strikes in as many games this season.
Premier League sides Tottenham, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have been mentioned as potential destinations for Kane after news of his Bayern release clause emerged in recent days.
The 31-year-old was available for £67million in the mid-season window and that figure will drop to £54million when the clause becomes active again in January 2026.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider English clubs will not pay Kane’s release clause next January, with his wages likely to take any potential deal to around £100million.
The forward is only 48 goals behind Alan Shearer’s Premier League record after registering 213 top-flight strikes for Tottenham.
Football Insider revealed on 11 February Bayern’s stance on Kane returning to the Premier League, with the German side relaxed about the situation.
Harry Kane to demand £20m-a-year deal to agree Premier League move
Borson insisted almost all of the recent signings in England have been for young players as clubs look to bring in promising stars for the future.
He told Football Insider: “I can’t see any Premier League clubs being prepared to pay a £54million fee for Harry Kane when he’s 32 and a half next winter.
“It’s not like he could come in and be on low wages. He will be on £20million a year. To do a two or three-year deal, it’s a £100million deal for a player that starts at 32 and a half.
“People throw back at me ‘Well, Barcelona bought Lewandowski when he was a year older for €45million (£38million)’. First of all, Barcelona are now out the market completely. But secondly, I think things have changed since then.
“If you look at the deals that were done in this window, there were almost no players traded in the Premier League over the age of 27. Almost all of the signings are young players.
“I just don’t think anybody would buy a 32-year-old Harry Kane with his injury record, even though he is scoring tonnes of goals.
“To bring him back to the Premier League for £54million, I don’t think that’s realistic.”
Mathys Tel earmarked as Tottenham’s Son Heung-min replacement
Tottenham signed Kane’s Bayern teammate Mathys Tel on loan in the January window, with a £45million option-to-buy clause included in the deal.
The 19-year-old scored his first goal for the club in the 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday (9 February).

Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider Tottenham view Tel as Son Heung-min’s long-term replacement after questions have been asked about his future in north London.
It’s so far been a disappointing season for Kane’s former side as they currently sit 14th in the Premier League table.
