Harry Kane to Liverpool for Premier League goal record ‘would make him very happy’

Harry Kane has been tipped to be tempted by a move to Liverpool in order to break the record for the most goals scored in Premier League history.

The striker left English football’s top-flight two years ago, when he ended his long association with Tottenham to join Bayern Munich.

This season, Kane lifted the Bundesliga title with Bayern, to end his long wait for a first ever trophy in senior football.

Even so, there has still been speculation that the England captain could return to the Premier League, after news of a release clause in his contract emerged.

Football Insider was previously told that Liverpool are in a strong position to sign Kane should he elect to return to his home country.

Now, Ally McCoist has suggested that the chance to eclipse Alan Shearer‘s scoring record in the Premier League, could convince him to make that return despite the satisfaction with his situation in Bavaria.

Harry Kane has had a season to remember in Germany

Harry Kane has motivation for Anfield move

To date, Kane has scored 213 Premier League goals, meaning he needs 48 more in the division to surpass Shearer’s current record of 260.

Meanwhile, with Darwin Nunez expected to be sold by Liverpool in the summer transfer window, Arne Slot’s side may need a new centre-forward for next season.

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist did indeed reiterate a belief that the Reds need to sign a striker this summer, and that Kane should be the one they target.

The former Rangers striker also indicated that the chance to break Shearer’s record could convince the ex-Spurs man to move to Anfield.

After host Jeff Stelling hinted that McCoist has previously named Kane as the striker Liverpool should target, th ex-Scotland international said: “I do. Harry Kane, I’ll tell you right now.

“I’d go and test the water on him. I genuinely would. I mean how many goals is he scoring at Liverpool?! He’s been incredible at Bayern, his goalscoring record is fantastic.

“Football fans, you can’t grudge him that title, you can’t grudge him that first trophy because of the way he applies himself, because of his goalscoring, and because of the type of guy he is.”

Stelling then noted Kane and Bayern are happy with his situation, to which McCoist replied: “I don’t think there’s any doubt about that but I tell you what would make him happy, beating Alan Shearer’s record, that would make him happy.

“On the flip side of that coin, I’ll tell you who it wouldn’t make happy, Alan Shearer!”

Liverpool would be a tempting move

Football Insider Verdict

Given Kane has hinted in the past that he would like to return to the Premier League to break Shearer’s record, this move could make a lot of sense.

Playing in a side with the quality Liverpool have, the striker would get plenty of chances to score the goals he needs to surpass the former Blackburn and Newcastle man.

As they showed by lifting the Premier League this season, it is also a move that would give Kane a good chance to claim more silverware.

Meanwhile, he would not tarnish his reputation at Tottenham as much as he would by joining one of their local rivals such as Arsenal or Chelsea, which you imagine would matter to him.

For Liverpool, there is no doubt they need a striker so they are not largely relying on the goals of Mo Salah, and Kane is a clear upgrade on the likes of Nunez.

It is worth noting that the Reds may have other striker options they can target such as Viktor Gyokeres [Liverpool News], so there will be plenty to weigh up here.

Even so, at least enquiring about a deal such as this would surely make sense for those in charge at Anfield.
