‘Harry Kane to take Liverpool number nine jersey’ – ‘Unbelievable’ verdict

Harry Kane has become a Bundesliga champion at Bayern Munich but there is a strong school of thought that he still has unfinished business in the Premier League.

The Englishman finally secured his first-ever piece of silverware at the weekend, as Bayern Munich wrapped up the Bundesliga title with two games to spare.

The Bavarian side took an unassailable lead at the top of the table after Bayer Leverkusen failed to beat Freiburg on Sunday (4 May).

Despite already clinching a league title of their own this season, there is a feeling among some that Liverpool will be keen to improve their attacking ranks in the summer transfer window.

Darwin Nunez has struggled to consistently score goals for the Reds, and there have been rumours that Kane would be open to a return to England with Liverpool.

Kane backed to make sensational Liverpool move

When Kane left Tottenham in the summer of 2023, he departed second in the all-time Premier League scoring charts with 213 goals.

The striker is under 50 goals away from beating Alan Shearer’s longstanding record of 260, and meaning he still has a great chance to sit top of the charts one day.

And talkSPORT (5 May) host Ally McCoist thinks there is a great chance he could make the move to Liverpool, saying live on air: “I can still see Harry Kane in that Liverpool number nine jersey.

“I’m telling you, I think he would do unbelievable at Liverpool, I think he would be the perfect number nine for them.”

However, former Aston Villa and Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend was less convinced that Kane would make the move to Merseyside.

His view was: “I think Harry will want to stay at Bayern and keep winning a few more (trophies), because he’s got every chance of doing that.

“I don’t see any reason why he can’t add a second Bundesliga title, I think he’d like to feel that he might be able to get to a Champions League final with Bayern before he moves on.”

Kane can break Shearer’s goal record

Football Insider Verdict

Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Liverpool would be at the front of the line to sign Kane if he became available.

The former Tottenham forward has scored 60 goals across his last two league seasons, and if he moved back to England and continued at that current rate, it would take him only two full campaigns to break Shearer’s record.

It is not out of the question that the 31-year-old could continue playing at the very highest level for the next five years, which would give him ample time to reach 260 Premier League goals.

It would also mean he doesn’t need to rush to Merseyside and could stand to boost his trophy haul in Germany for a while longer before returning to go for the English top-flight record.

Either way, he has finally achieved what he left Spurs to do in the first place so should have a huge weight off his shoulders as he decides on his next move.
