Harry Maguire and Paul Pogba respond to Man United exit announcement

Harry Maguire and Paul Pogba joined past and present Manchester United teammates in bidding farewell to a long-serving figure at the club.

It’s been a season to forget for Man United fans, with the team finishing 15th in the Premier League and suffering a heartbreaking loss in the Europa League final to Tottenham last week.

Despite calls from Man United supporters for the club to sack Ruben Amorim, the hierarchy are set to stand by the Portuguese boss ahead of what is expected to be a busy and pivotal summer transfer window.

While reinforcements are crucial, the focus is also on trimming the squad, especially after missing out on European football altogether. An exodus of players is now anticipated.

Football Insider revealed that three first-team players will leave Man United immediately as their contracts come to an end. Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen have already confirmed their exits and now, another player has followed suit, officially bringing his time at Old Trafford to a close.

Victor Lindelof confirms Manchester United exit after eight years

Lindelof has been at Man United since 2017 from Benfica and was brought in by Jose Mourinho. Now, after eight years at Old Trafford, the Swedish international has confirmed he will be leaving the club in a heartfelt Instagram post.

He wrote: “There’s nothing on earth like being a red. Manchester, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

The post drew plenty of reactions from teammates past and present. Harry Maguire replied, “Will miss you mate” while Leny Yoro and West Ham’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka reacted with heart emojis.

Others, including Paul Pogba, Diogo Dalot, and Lindelof’s international teammate Alexander Isak, also liked the post.

Since joining United, Lindelof has made 284 appearances and played under a number of managers. However, his involvement diminished this season, making just six Premier League starts.

Lindelof picked up an injury for Man United just as when Amorim took over, and failed to claim a starting place since, with the likes of Maguire, Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt taking up more prominent roles.

Kobbie Mainoo could join Victor Lindelof in Man United exit

While Lindelof’s exit will relieve some pressure on the wage bill, the club are expected to cash in on key players as part of a wider squad rebuild.

Former chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Man United are open to offers for Kobbie Mainoo when the window opens.

Given that he came through the youth system, any transfer would count as pure profit under PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules). Man United are believed to be seeking a fee of £70 million for Mainoo – money that could play a pivotal role in funding their summer business.
