Harry Maguire sends Leicester message after Man United controversy

Man United defender Harry Maguire took to social media to share an image from his time at Leicester alongside one of his controversial goal in the 2-1 FA Cup win on Friday (February 7).

The 31-year-old scored a controversial 93rd-minute winner for Man United as they secured a place in the FA Cup fifth round at Old Trafford.

Maguire was one of several United players who appeared to be stood in an offside position when he met Bruno Fernandes’ floating cross to nod past Mads Hermansen in the Leicester goal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official Keith Hackett believes the Man United goal should have been ruled out for offside.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was furious with the decision after the game, telling ITV: “We are not defeated in Fergie time, we are defeated in offside time.”

“We are gutted. When you prepare for the whole week for this game and reacting after the Everton loss and put in a performance like that but it is decided on a clear and obvious mistake, that is unacceptable and unthinkable at this level.”

The England international is enjoying life under Ruben Amorim, starting 17 of his 24 games across all competitions, popping up with two goals, and providing zero assists in his 1576 minutes of action.

He is still prone to the odd mistake, however, with many Man United fans taking to social media to vent their frustrations after Maguire’s mistake in the 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

The centre-back took to Instagram to share a throwback of himself scoring against United while at Leicester and vice versa, saying: “Roles reversed.”

Maguire could be set for a more prominent role under Ruben Amorim at the 20-time champions after Lisandro Martinez’s most recent injury setback.

Amorim’s attention will return to the Premier League as they travel to fellow struggling ‘big six’ side Tottenham on February 16th.
