Harry Maguire sends message to Man United fans after raging Van Nistelrooy hits out
Man United defender Harry Maguire took to social media to send a message to the fans after his controversial late winner in their 2-1 FA Cup win over Leicester on Friday (February 7).
The 31-year-old popped up in the 93rd minute to score a late winner and send United to the fifth round despite appearing to be in an offside position as the visiting side’s manager Ruud van Nistelrooy hit out at the decision.
Bobby De Cordova-Reid opened the scoring for Leicester just before half-time, latching on to Andre Onana’s parry from Wilfred Ndidi’s initial shot.
Struggling striker Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench to equalise for Man United in the 68th minute before Maguire secured the win in added time.
Maguire headed the winner, despite appearing to be offside when Bruno Fernandes sent a free-kick towards the back post.
“We are not defeated in Fergie time, we are defeated in offside time,” Van Nistelrooy, the former United striker, told ITV after his side were beaten in round four.
“We are gutted. When you prepare for the whole week for this game and reacting after the Everton loss and put in a performance like that but it is decided on a clear and obvious mistake, that is unacceptable and unthinkable at this level.”
United fans still remain unconvinced by Zirkzee, with many taking to social media to urge the club to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window.

The England international is enjoying life under Ruben Amorim, starting 17 of his 24 games across all competitions, popping up with two goals, and providing zero assists in his 1576 minutes of action.
Maguire is still prone to the odd mistake, however, with many fans taking to social media to vent their frustrations after his mistake in the 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
The centre-back took to Instagram after the controversial win over Leicester City, saying: “Last minute winner at the Stretford end.”

The FA decided to only have VAR in the FA Cup from the fifth round onwards at the start of the 2024-25 season, with it previously used in the third and fourth rounds if the tie was played at a Premier League ground.
Maguire could be set for a more prominent role at the 20-time champions after Lisandro Martinez’s most recent injury setback.
