Harry Maguire told to take wage cut and join West Ham after source’s Man United reveal – expert

Harry Maguire would be a good addition to West Ham but won’t see his Man United wages matched.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hammers striker Frank McAvennie insisted Maguire “has never been a Man United player” and claimed he should move on this summer.

On 18 July, Football Insider revealed that Maguire wants his £10million-a-year United contract to be paid up before he quits this summer.

The 30-year-old still has two years left on his deal at Old Trafford but the club are willing to sell him at a cut price fee of around £35m.

The centre-back has already been stripped of the United captaincy for next season and is set to be a back up option if he remains at United.

West Ham are among the interested Premier League clubs but his £190,000-a-week wages is a major hurdle for them and others.

McAvennie suggested there are not many teams out there willing to pay up for the defender.

I do not think he is in high demand,” he told Football Insider.

He knows he will not get those kinds of wages somewhere else so you can’t blame him. Man United did the contract and if they want to let him go they should pay him.

I never did think he was a United player, he is a decent player but he plays better for England than what he has ever done for Man United.

I think he would do well at West Ham but [David] Sullivan won’t pay that kind of money in wages. Teams like that would be good for him but he is not going to get that kind of wage so he is wanting paid up.
