Harry Redknapp delivers verdict on Pochettino after 100 match Tottenham landmark
By Harvey Byrne
Harry Redknapp has shared that he believes Mauricio Pochettino is doing a “fantastic job” with Tottenham after the Argentine reached a 100 match landmark on Saturday.
The former Southampton boss took charge of his 100th Premier League fixture for the north London as they welcomed Middlesbrough to White Hart Lane.
The result went as planned for the experienced boss as Tottenham ran out 1-0 victors over the north east side via a Harry Kane penalty.
It has left Spurs in second place and nine points behind league leaders Chelsea as they also went close to picking up their first Premier League title in the last campaign.
Redknapp, who managed Tottenham for four years himself between 2008 and 2012 was only able to achieve fourth place as his highest finish.
However, he was full of support for Pochettino and his side and urged the north London club to keep chasing Chelsea.
“Mauricio, I’m very disappointed that you won more games than me in your 100 games,” started Redknapp jokingly in a post-match interview on BT Sport with the Argentine boss.
“Listen, you’ve done a fantastic job, a fantastic job. Your team play great football and I enjoy watching you play so much. Keep chasing Chelsea, keep chasing them. I know you will.”
Tottenham’s next game will see them travel to Anfield to face an out of form Liverpool, while Chelsea will travel to a strong at home Burnley in their next fixture.
Spurs will play their first Europa League fixture of the campaign in 12 days time against Gent, while the Blues are out of Europe altogether following a poor last season.
Some will see it as a distraction for Tottenham, but they could in fact use it to their advantage with the Sunday fixture’s meaning they will more often than not know what Chelsea done on the same week.
