Harry Redknapp compares Tottenham’s home ground to London rivals
By Amir Mir
Harry Redknapp has stated that the toughest places to go as a manager were always “the tight stadiums” as Tottenham prepare to bid farewell to White Hart Lane.
The former Premier League boss was comparing Spurs’ current home to West Ham’s old stadium, Upton Park.
The Hammers left their old surroundings last summer and moved into the London Stadium at the start of this campaign.
Spurs will go through the same process as they play their final match at the Lane on Sunday afternoon against Manchester United.
Redknapp, who managed Spurs to the Champions League during his time at the club, compared the Lane to their London rivals and Southampton’s old ground.
“The toughest places to go as an opposing manager were always the tight stadiums. Southampton’s Dell, West Ham’s Upton Park, White Hart Lane when it was full,” Redknapp told the London Evening Standard.
“It was a lot more intimidating to go to those grounds than it is with the new modern-style places.”
West Ham’s last match at Upton Park was also against United, with Slaven Bilic’s team beating the Manchester club 3-2.
The Tottenham faithful will be hoping for the same kind of send-off as they are yet to be beaten on home soil this term.
During their last match in front of their supporters, they beat their north London rivals Arsenal 2-0 to win the bragging rights for the season.
Spurs have recorded a number of impressive wins at the Lane this term, including beating champions-elect Chelsea, Manchester City, West Ham, Southampton and Arsenal.
Added to that, one point against United will all but seal the runners-up spot for Pochettino’s side, who will move into Wembley for the next campaign.
