Tottenham youngster Harry Winks has named midfielder Luka Modric as his idol.

The central midfielder made his first Premier League start in the club’s last domestic match against West Ham, scoring his first senior goal in the 3-2 victory.

Current Real Madrid star Modric spent four seasons at White Hart Lane between 2008-12 and is regarded as one of the club’s greatest talents during the Premier League era.

Modric was one of Spurs’ best players during his time with the north London club and played alongside star names such as Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart.

The Croatian international made 160 appearances for Spurs, scoring 17 goals and supplying 27 assists.

The 31-year-old is now a key part of Real Madrid’s midfield after completing a £30million switch to the Bernabeu in 2012.

Winks will hope to emulate the success of Modric, who become a fan favourite due to his intelligence and style in possession.

The youngster has made a fantastic start to his career and manager Mauricio Pochettino has started him in the club’s last two games.

Spurs are blessed with several talented midfield options in their squad including the likes of Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama, Eric Dier and Tom Carroll.

Winks has certaintly made a good impression so far in the team and could follow in the footsteps of academy graduate Harry Kane to become a regular first-team starter.
