Harvey Barnes reacts to Newcastle development amid exit speculation

Harvey Barnes has given his reaction after Newcastle United beat Brentford to reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Barnes’ future has been the subject of much speculation recently, with suggestions he is a player the Magpies could be forced to sell in the January transfer window to comply with PSR regulations.

Despite that the winger still came off the bench as a 65th-minute substitute for Eddie Howe’s side in their cup quarter-final against Brentford on Wednesday (18 December).

Two goals from Sandro Tonali and another from Fabian Schar secured a 3-1 win for Newcastle at St. James’ Park to confirm their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

It appears Barnes may be keen to be involved in that, with the player posting on Instagram after the game with the message: “On to the semis”.

Newcastle have a big decision to make on Harvey Barnes’ future

It has been well-documented that the Magpies are going to have to sell players if they are to be able to invest in January without breaching PSR rules.

Right now, it appears Barnes is a contender to be moved on since he is one they could make a decent fee on to help their financial situation.

That though is in large part because he is a very good player, and therefore an asset who Newcastle would prefer not to lose if they could avoid it.

Indeed he has featured in all but one game Eddie Howe’s side have played in league and cup this season, highlighting his importance to them.

With the semi-finals not set to be played until next year, Barnes’ desire to be a part of that also suggests he is keen to remain at Newcastle beyond the January transfer window.

As a result those in charge at St James’ may have some tough calls to make over the future of the 27-year-old in the coming weeks.
