Harvey Elliott hailed by pundit after Liverpool reveal via Sky – ‘it’s great to see’

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott for hiring a striker coach this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said “it’s great to see” the 19-year-old’s desire to better himself during the off-season.

Elliott has impressed for the Reds in pre-season following a 2021-22 campaign blighted by injury.

The attacking midfielder has been working with individual striker coach Scott Chickelday to improve his goal output next season.

Speaking to Sky Sports (20 July), Chickelday revealed Elliott has been working on repetition of finishing during their sessions together.

Jurgen Klopp’s side face RB Salzburg on Wednesday before the FA Community Shield against Man City on Saturday.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Elliott investing on improving himself, Robinson said: “It’s great to see that.

“You want players to want to better themselves.

“The facilities and the staff that Liverpool have got, you question why he would need to outsource a coach but you have to admire his desire and determination.

“Players now turn up for the first day of pre-season fitter than they ever are. They are not match fit but they are still in great shape.

“They know about the tests and the running that is ahead of them. To be at their best come the start of the season they have to hit the ground running.”
